Support Engineer
A support engineer installs, configures, and maintains UNIX/Linux operating systems. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with the operating system's servers, hardware, applications, and software. Regulates access to systems and data, monitors data use, and updates computer security files. Detects, diagnoses, and reports server and application related problems.
They also review, analyze, and modify programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing to support an organization's application systems. Consults with business to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives. May be expected to write documentation to describe installation and operating procedures. Familiar with relational databases and client-server concepts. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Requirements:
- Requires BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 5 years of hands-on experience;
- Ability to work under limited supervision;
- Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures;
- Must have expert knowledge in a broad range of server operating systems;
- Must have excellent knowledge of network connectivity;
- Must have knowledge in server based scripting languages;
- Requires an extremely high level of technical skill in field of expertise;
- Experience with BEA Weblogic 8, 9, 10;
- Experience with and Support of Red Hat Linux and various Unix builds;
- Experience with HP servers; Must be able to write jobs, using various scripting languages, i.e. Java Script, Perl, PHP, etc;
- Expertise in the configuration of VFO, Exchange Path, and Orchestrator; Expertise in the configuration and management of BRMS/BRE;
- Proficient knowledge with the VFO, Exchange Path, and Orchestrator database structures in order to create on-demand SQL for data extraction;
- Knowledge of CVS and SVN; Knowledge of Sendmail;
- Knowledge of Veritas Netbackup;
- Knowledge of VMware ESX preferred;
- Knowledge of Oracle Application Server, Web Sphere or Web Objects;
- Knowledge of Solaris;
- Knowledge of Oracle Knowledge of compliance initiatives i.e. SOX, SAS70, PCI and ITIL knowledge of the wholesale ASOG and LSOG releases;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Must be able to exchange information with all levels of internal and external customers;
- Must have excellent collaboration skills;
- Can lead projects through complex tasks;
- Must be willing to travel to other offices and client sites as needed.
- 40 hours/week.
Responsibilities:
- Provides World Class Customer Service to internal and external customers
- Provides Java based Application Support
- Provides 24x7 production support to the enterprise
- Support the creation, maintenance and implementation of procedures regarding how problems are identified, received, documented, distributed and corrected.
- Ensures project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately
- Reviews deliverables prepared by the clients and management to document project plans
- Manages day-to-day project and scope changes for responsible projects
- Coordinates installation of hardware and software by others
- Communicates and coordinates application schedule, backups, and downtime to users.
- Prepares and maintains documentation of application and hardware configurations
- Reviews computer reports, files, and messages to identify instances of possible security infractions
- Tests computer systems to evaluate effectiveness of security.
- Responds to inquiries regarding data and computer security, policies, and procedures
- Installs security identification and apparatus to computer hardware and peripherals
- Modifies security files to add, modify, or delete users' access
- Maintains data-encryption software programs and keys
- Participates in the planning, communication, testing, and implementation of disaster recovery procedures
- Installs and maintains various servers
- Assists with linking servers to database systems.
- Collects and analyzes server and memory utilization
- Performs capacity planning
- Identifies potential security issues and develops strategy to ensure site security
- Researches and evaluates new technologies
- Performs complex technical tasks including debugging and supporting hardware/software modules and systems
- Coordinates third-party maintenance for hardware and software
- Must provide mentoring and training to other staff members
- Writes process and procedural documentation including requirements
- Develops and coordinates knowledge transfer
- Establishes enterprise-wide uniform infrastructure, including supporting defined departmental content processes and creating guidelines for content deployment
- Interacts with business units to gather, define, and organize delivery of business solutions
